POLL!! Typing Style

Hey Typosphere!

Had a frenzied typing session on the Skyriter tonight (oh yeah, if you didn't know it, mpclemens hooked me up with one of my grail machines in his cleanout... I'll get around to posting picturesnstuff eventually, promise), and I had this epiphany of a question, which may have already been asked, but what the hell. I'll ask it again.

What's your typing style?
(Can't figure out how to embed the poll in this post, so check it out at the top of the sidebar!)

  1. "Ten fingeredish... watching the keys at all times"

Well, not at all times, but most of the times. I know how to touch type on a wired keyboard, but typewriters are a bit different so I need to practice some more. :-)

    1. Hahaha I agree here. I need the little raised bits on the J and F to feel comfortable with the layout, and to find my way back after carriage return.

    1. Practice. You'll get better with practice and Mavis beacon or some other old typing program. :)

  3. I learned to touch type in High School 40 years ago. However I had been typing with two fingers for at least 4 years on my fathers typewriter (self-taught).
Today I will use 10 fingers if the typewriter has easy quick response... but if the keys are stiff or the typewriter skips I revert back to two fingers.

    1. The touch has a ton to do with how we type!

  4. Touch type, totally. I mostly learned to type on a computer using a very old typing tutor program. Mom was a super fast typist who wanted to make sure we had good keyboarding skills, and she used to tape a piece of paper to the top of the keyboard and drape it over my hands so I had to learn by touch. Does mean I'm a bit thrown for a loop when I use odd keyboard layouts.

    1. I remember those type of programs. I taught myself to type on our old wedge using a sixties typing book for the same reason--my mom is a stellar typist.

  5. Generally all 10, though I still have wimpy a's and z's... I try to mention Zoe, zeal and zest a lot, as a sort of finger yoga.

  6. I'm a nine-finger typist. I touch-type, but use only my right thumb for spacing. Is there really anyone out there that uses BOTH thumbs? Really?

  7. Should have changed one of them... to touch type, watching most of the time... tried adding it and I couldn't, as the poll had already had people answer it!
